Whole-Child Report Card

More than a grade. A whole student.

The problem

A grade alone never told Gemma's full story — failing on paper, but building a VR company outside school. Families and students need a picture of growth that reflects the whole learner, not just seat time.

The goal

Scale and refine the WCRC so advisory and family engagement see academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness indicators side-by-side.

Approach

How they piloted it.

  1. 01

    Deepen integration into advisory routines

  2. 02

Expand family-facing usage from ~70% toward universal adoption

  3. 03

Refine indicators based on student, educator, and family feedback

Human-centered

AI that sustains, not supplants.

What this pilot is — and isn't

The WCRC exists precisely because data shown on IXL or Achieve3000 was never going to tell a student's whole story. It is built to capture the parts of a learner a digital platform misses — their creativity, their personality, the company they're building on the weekend, the way they show up for their family. This is the most human work we do, and technology is only here to help us see students more fully — never to flatten them into a score.

The team

Educators on the ground.

    Dean of Operations

I joined the Innovation Team because I care deeply about improving the student and family experience through systems that feel clear, supportive, and meaningful. As Dean of Operations, I've been focusing on making information more accessible and useful for our families, staff, and students. My role involves coordinating communication strategies and gathering data to support our goals, which has been a great opportunity to learn, collaborate, and help strengthen how we communicate student growth beyond just grades.

English 11 / AP Lang & Comp Teacher

I joined the Innovation Team because I believe education and the world around us are changing quickly with the rise of AI. As educators, I believe it's our responsibility to keep learning so we can continue creating safe, equitable, and caring spaces where all students feel seen and supported. If AI can help us build stronger connections, increase access, and create more opportunities for students, then I think we should learn how to use it in thoughtful ways that truly support our students and communities.

    Dean of Culture

I joined the Innovation Team because, as Dean of Culture, I believe our work goes beyond discipline and creating a safe, caring, and accountable campus. Working with the WCRC cohort allows me to help bridge the gap by focusing on serving the whole child and supporting our communities in a deeper way. Being a part of this team allows me to think creatively about how we can better meet the needs of our students and families.

I actually joined the Innovation Team because I'm not the biggest fan of AI. The goal of my role was to ensure that AI integration is purposeful and enhances student experience, rather than take away from it. I specifically wanted to be in the WCRC cohort as this is a platform I'm very passionate about and wish I had in my high school. I'm grateful to be a part of the growth and improvement of the platform.

I was interested in the WCRC group because I've always felt that Ednovate's secret sauce is that we're like a private school -- for free! We have small campuses where every student is known by name, teachers from whom this work is a real labor of love, with a ton of care and imagination going into their lesson plans, and students who are respectful, orderly, and ambitious. I hope that after our work, the WCRC will be a tool that really reflects this personal touch and is a useful model of a caring, 360-degree high school program.

Innovation is core to who we are at Ednovate, and the Innovation Team is where that value comes to life. The Whole Child Report Card was born from this group, and when I joined the data team I became part of carrying that work forward. Being on the Innovation Team now means I get to help shape what this product becomes next, with the goal of making it even more meaningful for our students.
